Tornadoes sweep ing from Missouri through Ark ansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tenn essee, Kentucky, Virginia and W. Virginia killed 220 people, injured 1,100 and did millions of property damage. . . The First Invitational Basketball Tournament nromoted by the Columbus Cham ber of Commerce ended success fully Saturday with Pacific Mills winning over Montgomery & Craw ford 87-79; and the Columbus Capitols defeated Hendersonville Smoke Shop 89-75 for the conso lation. . . Sunday was Mrs. E. E. Missildine’s birthday. . . Prof. Wm. W. Sloan of Elon College will address the Christian Endeavor Society tonight at 7:30 at the Con —Continued on Back Page_ | Telephone Officers Are Re-Elected Here The annual meeting of the Stockholders of the Thermal Belt Telephone Company was held in the offices of the Company on Friday, March 21st at 2 p. m. There were eight shareholders present out of a total of 65. Shares represented by proxy were 111, in person 279 a total of 390 shares or 77 per cent of the outstand ing stock. The Directors elected for a 3 year term were M. R. McCown, Dr. M. C. Palmer and E. L. Tol lison. The recommendation of the Di rectors that the Company issue 10 M of Serial Notes maturing in two years was approved by the Shareholders. Immediately after the Share holders Meeting the organization meeting of the Board was held at | which the present officers were . re-elected. President, M. R. Mc Cown; Vice Presidents, G. H. Bridgeman and Maurice Puckett; Secretary-Treasurer, F. A. Buchda; Assistant Secretary-Treasurer, Mrs E. B. Averill. E. L. Tollison, General Manager, is in charge of operations. North Carolina imported near | ly 14 million pounds of milk for boftle sales from January through September of last year.
